Network Maintenance - BGP Routing Configuration - Fri, Jan 12th 2007, 23:00-03:00 PDT Print E-mail
The Network Operations team will be modifying the BGP routing configuration of the transit routing network for all data centers. After modifications, testing will be done to verify optimized transit routing. Once modifications have been completed, transit link failure will be simulated to verify correct operation in an upstream failure scenario.

This maintenance operation is composed of three activities:

  1. Modification of BGP transit routing configuration
The BGP configuration of each transit router will be modified to optimize traffic flow and increase network redundancy. Customers in each data center may experience brief (up to 60 seconds) of latency as BGP routing tables are recalculated.
  2. Testing and optimization of BGP transit routes
Network Operations will test incoming and outgoing transit paths for best routing and performance. Minor modifications to BGP configuration may be introduced to optimize inbound and outbound routing. Customers will not be affected during testing phase, but may experience brief periods of latency (up to 60 seconds) if BGP modifications are made.
    * Verification of system fault tolerance with upstream transit links
  3. Network Operations will simulate failure of each upstream transit link to verify traffic re-routing. After simulating upstream link failure, intra-data center links will be failed and connectivity testing will be performed. Customers in each data center may experience brief (up to 60 seconds) of latency as BGP routing tables are recalculated. During intra-data center link failure, customers may experience up to 120 seconds of connectivity interruption while testing is being performed.
